Business Analyst - Payments and Fintech

  • Full time
  • Department: Revenue & Operations

Company Description

At lastminute.com, we live for holidays. We are the European Travel-Tech leader in dynamic holiday packages. Through technology, we transform spontaneous thoughts into meaningful experiences, helping people travel across the world.

Job Description

We are looking for a Business Analyst to join our Payments & Fintech team. You will be the person who knows how our payment and ordering process actually works, why, and what needs to be done about it.

You will combine strong data skills with a deep understanding of how an e-commerce business generates revenue: turnover, costs, margins, and the trade-offs between conversion and risk. You will turn data into decisions, detect problems before they become costly, and help shape what the product team will develop next.

This is a junior to mid-level position, ideal for someone with 4 to 5 years of experience who wants real responsibility and experience across Product and Data teams, and to evolve into business roles.

What you will do

Performance tracking and analysis

Ensure the tracking of payment and ordering process performance: conversion, adoption of payment methods, abandonment rates, market share, and other key indicators, across markets, brands, and devices.

Translate KPI evolutions into business impact on revenue, costs, and margins, and recommend actions.

Prepare regular business reviews (data, analysis, and presentations) and present them to stakeholders and management.

Anomaly detection and alerts

Be the first line of detection for anomalies in payments and the ordering process, and coordinate investigations and resolutions with Product, Engineering, and external partner teams.

Manage our real-time alerting system for payments and the ordering process (currently Grafana/Prometheus): configure and maintain alerts, adjust thresholds to reduce noise, and extend coverage as the company grows.

Business partnership

Participate in meetings with payment partners and internal teams, bringing data to the discussion and keeping the focus on what matters to the company.

Support the product team and the business team in the discovery phase: evaluate opportunities, define success metrics, and assist in evaluating the results of launches and complex A/B tests.

Monitor the market and competitors for benchmarks, new payment methods, and fintech trends.

AI and automation

Use AI tools to connect the dots between user data, payment data, and other internal sources, discovering insights that are difficult to find manually.

Build lightweight applications, automations, and prototypes ("vibe coding") that accelerate analysis and help the whole team work smarter.

Who you will work with

You will be part of the Payments & Fintech team and work daily with:

Product Team: to guide discovery, define metrics, and measure what we deliver.

Business Team: to guide business decisions with data and support partner relationships.

Data Analytics Team: to align on data sources, definitions, and shared reporting.

You will also be in regular contact with payment service providers and other external partners.

Qualifications

What you bring

Data skills: you are proficient in SQL and are comfortable manipulating and analyzing large datasets with Python (or similar). You create clear and reliable reports.

Business sense: you understand how an e-commerce business works, from traffic and conversion to revenue, costs, and profits, and you always ask "so what?" behind a number.

AI mastery: you use AI tools daily and are comfortable building applications, automations, and prototypes with them.

Communication: you create clear presentations and tell a story with data, and you are confident presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.

Accountability: you follow an anomaly through to its resolution and coordinate people across teams to achieve it.

Requirements

Degree in a STEM discipline (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Physics).

4 to 5 years of experience in data analysis, business analysis, or a similar analytical role.

Strong background in statistics (e.g., hypothesis testing, A/B test analysis, time series).

Previous experience in a high-traffic e-commerce company or a digital company.

Fluent English, written and spoken.

Assets

Experience in payments, fintech, fraud, or ordering process optimization.

Hands-on experience with monitoring and alert tools
